Arashiyama is a sightseeing area that is filled as far as the eye can see with cherry blossoms in spring and colorful leaves in autumn. Near the TOGETSUKYO Bridge that spans the Katsura River, there is a place to enjoy a cup of coffee while viewing the gently flowing river. All coffees are roasted in-house, including coffee from a plantation in Hawaii and specialty coffees imported from countries world-wide. 02. SLOW JET COFFEE KODAI-JI TEMPLE


This coffee shop is located in the precincts of KODAIJI Temple, a popular sightseeing spot. Enjoy this shop’s specialties, which include coffee made from beans roasted on the spot, then each cup is carefully made using the drip method (SLOW coffee) and espresso made with deep-roasted beans extracted at high-speed from an espresso machine (JET coffee). Kyoto sweets, such as Tamba black bean and gyokuro matcha green tea butter cake (¥600), are also delicious. Take a break in a location overlooking the city of Kyoto.

03. KAIKADO CAFÉ


The copper, brass, and tin tea canisters that line the back of the counter are quite photogenic! This cafe is operated by the well-established tea canister shop KAIKADO. It opened near Kyoto Tower in the spring of 2016. Enjoy NAKAGAWA WANI COFFEE for ¥820 in a space employing a 90-year-old street car garage and office. Cups used in the cafe created by traditional artisans of Kyoto, such as a cheesecake (¥550) platter by NAKAGAWA MOKKOUGEI and cups by ASAHI-YAKI POTTERY, are fascinating.
