Jun 18,2018 Try Karakami, a Traditional Handicraft!
Kyo-karakami paper is a traditional handicraft that originated around 1,000 years ago and used for sliding screen paper and wallpaper. The paper is printed on using woodblock printing techniques. Paint is put on the surface of the woodblocks engraved by hand with traditional patterns, and then matched with a piece of Japanese paper with patterns and then handmade one by one.
At KARAMARU, you will use a trial kit, that uses the same karakami paper and creation process as Kyo-karakami. With 9 patterns to choose from, you can make your very own original postcard that is sure to be a wonderful souvenir of your time in Kyoto.
